Résumé :
|
Cones from a young (24-28 yr) and an old (120-280 yr) stand in N. Sweden were compared in the laboratory. Number of cones/ha was 71 000 (4.3 kg of filled seed) in the old stand and 29 000 (2.1 kg) in the young stands. Cones in the young stand were longer, larger and heavier and seeds were heavier than in the old stand. There were n.s.d. in germination rate or capacity, number of seeds/cone, % empty seed, or extractability. It is concluded that there is no biological reason to restrict collection of seed from young stands.
