Is there a niche for forest research in the 6th Framework Programme -and where? What will the new instruments -Networks of Excellence and Integrated Projects- be like? There are a lot of questions related to the changes brought along by the new Framework Programme launched in November 2002. In order to promote the dialogue and exchange of information between the EU and the forest research community , EFI, in co-operation with French ECOFOR, arranged on 25 November 2002 in Paris a one-day seminar to discuss the role of forest research in the newly started Framework Programme. This report compiles the papers and interventions presented at the seminar, which was organised in the framework of the EU-funded project IMACFORD -Improving and Advancing the Coordination of Forest Research and Development in Europe.
