Résumé :
|
The International Conference on population and Development held at Cairo in September 1994 emphasized the importance of equity, gender equality, and other aspects of quality of life in formulating a population policy. In light of these different prioorities, what remains is to examine this triangle collectively. Although the complexities in looking at these parameters as three sets of interacting forces may seem daunting, to ensure sustainability, such a pespective needs to be adopted. The various papers in this volume address this polulation-environment-develoment nexus. They cover the issues of water scarcity, deforestation, biodiversity, migration, glbal warmin, and changing consumption patterns. THis nexus will be crucial for the future and to that extent, this book is intended to provide a backdrop for further research and policy analysis in this area.
