The 3rd EARSeL Workshop on Imaging Spectroscopy was the successor of the preceding first workshop, held in Zürich in autumn 1998, hosted by Remote Sensing Laboratories (RSL) at the Universität Zürich, and the second held in Enschede, hosted by the International Institute for Aerospace Surveys and Earth Sciences (ITC). As in the previous workshops the whole bandwidth of questions related to the development and application of imaging spectroscopy were covered. The topics of the presentations ranged from sensor systems over the employment of the hyperspectral technique in current and future campaigns and missions to application-oriented works focussing on data preparation. A large portion of the workshop was dedicated to presentations dealing with the solution of practical problems of environmental monitoring by application of imaging spectroscopy.
