This paper describes the research advances and outputs of selected EC funded projects in the area of hydrological risks. The projects have been supported under the Third and Fourth Framework Programmes. Major advances in knowledge and understanding have been made, for instance, in: radar-based estimation of rainfall; real-time flood forecasting; risk from debris flow; flood risk assessment.
