This proceeding parties were : desertification research thematic issues spatial and temporal scaling ; empirical and practical approaches to land surface characterisation and change detection ; a conceptual framework for mapping and monitoring the degradation of Mediterranean ecosystems with remote sensing ; the role of remote sensing in understanding and controlling land degradation and desertification processes : the EFEDA Research Strategy ; advanced modelling and inversion techniques for the quantitative characterization of desertification ; practical approaches to desertification monitoring using Meteorological Satellite Data . aggregation of evaporative fraction by remote sensing from micro to macro scale ; identifying and measuring land degradation processes using remote sensing ; spectral characterisation of vegetation communities and practical approaches to vegetation cover changes monitoring ; changes in vegetated landscapes : a process-model approach to Multispectral Remote Sensing ; use of soil and rock spectral signatures for natural vegetation cover estimation ; simple remotely sensed land surface parameters : a rationale for land degradation monitoring in arid Mediterranean areas ; and the centre for earth observation (CEO) : a new concept.
