Résumé :
|
Knowledge of the long-term impacts of environmental changes and silvicultural practices on temperate plantation forests and their sustainability is both crucial and uncertain. At the heart of the scientific problem lies the complex interplay between tree and soil processes. At the same time foresters require practical management tools. Models can play a key role in both areas as demonstrated in the proceedings of the scientific workshop co-organised in September 2000 by the Institut Européen de la Forêt Cultivée (IEFC) and INRA in Bordeaux-Aquitaine, France. The aims of the workshop were: (i) to review the current use of models in understanding and quantifying the sustainable management of plantation forests; (ii) to encourage links between tree and soil modellers; (iii) to encourage links between researchers and end-users; and (iv) to identify priorities for future research and collaboration.
