Résumé : | This experiment aimed at studying the effect of heat + drought applied in combination with root-pruning to potted grafts dug out of a 10-year-old-Japanese larch seed orchard three years previously. All the grafts were root-pruned in mid March 1993. Half of them remained outside, well watered whereas the second half stayed in a greenhouse from May 3rd until September 6th. Indoors, temperature maxina were 5° C above those recorded at les Barres weather station and the grafts received restricted watering in May and June. The grafts which were moved into the greenhouse developed sthorter shoots and elongation clearly slowed down from mid June to mid August. Furthermore, many short shoot buds reflushed whereas this phenomenon did not occur outside. Unfortunately the greenhouse environnment caused disturbances in vegetative development only. Root-pruning + heat + drought did not result in better flowering than root-pruning alone. Nevertheless, it is possible that excellent flowering observed in 1994 was partly due to root-pruning. |
