Résumé :
|
Anyone who has conducted research in the field quickly comes to realize the complexity of natural ecosystems. This softbound publication is a practical "how-to" manual for planning and conducting studies of seed biology in field locations. Although primarily oriented to seed researchers and foresters, this manual also contains seed testing and treatment information useful to nurseries. Following a discussion of planning and organizing a field study (Section 1) and setting up an environmental monitoring program for the experimental site (Section 2), the manual is arranged by subject areas most often associated with field studies of tree seeds: natural seed production (Section 3), seed dispersal (Section 4), seed predation (Section 5), seed banks (Section 6), assessing seed quality and viability (Section 7), and effects of silvicultural practices on emergence (Section 8).
