Résumé :
|
Much modern ecological research on large vertebrates focuses on species that are suffering population declines and need the attention of conservation biologists just to save them from extinction. Contrary to these, the story of the European roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) is a story of success. This volume sets out to analyse just why it has been so successful. However, this book is more than just a species summary. Throughout the various chapters the authors have tried to emphasise the contributions to our understanding of ungulate biology (from evolution through physiology to behaviour and population dynamics) which have resulted from the study of roe deer. This book synthesises the results of existing research from ore than twenty institutions representing ten European countries.
