Résumé :
|
The main objective of the project was to propose attractive techniques for plantation forest management to produce an increasing supply of raw material for the wood-using industry. The aim of the project was to determine economically and ecologically appropriate varieties and silvicultural techniques to produce wood with acceptable characteristics. The project focused on four coniferous species namely : . Norway spruce . Sitka spruce . Douglas fir . Larches The project includes the evaluation of material from seed right through to harvesting techniques. In order to address the different aspects included in the proposal, it was divided into five main inter-connected tasks : breeding and selection (early tests ; introduction and test of new material) ; seeds and plants production (seed orchards - indoor seed orchards, flower induction - ; somatic embryogenesis ; vegetative propagation ; physiological quality of plants) ; silviculture (spacing and thinning ; demonstration plots ; harvesting) ; consequences (wood quality ; ecosystems) ; cost benefits analysis.
