Résumé :
|
The monotoring of the large wild herbivores effects on the regeneration is of great importance in alpine regions, particularty in mountain belt forests, where the mansupported forestry still addresses to naturalistic silviculture principles. Changes in the vegetal contens caused by a high faunal pressure may limit the tree diversity of the mised forest stands, consequently limiting also the availability of vegetal species from a silvicultural point of view. This study describes the results of a three-year monitoring of 10 Treentino's forest sites, representative of the ecological gradient of the mointain belt. Fenced plots safeguarded against the fauna access were compared with free-accessible plots esposed to the natural wild-fauna attendance. The evolution of the fegetal status of the plots has been evaluated by mean of several biodiversity indicators three years after their drawing up. The comparison between this guarded evolution and the qild fauna related regeneration damage observed in free-accessible plots led to the identification of the ecological zone, within the moutain forest belt, seeming be the most affected one by faunal impact; at the same time, the most suitable fegetal species to be used as bioindicators were in this way identified. This study provides a number of forest management guide-lines in the monitoring of the wild fauna related damaging, at the same time investigating from a methodological as well as theoretic point of view the use of quantitative indicators and bio-indicators in forestry and ecology-related applied research.
