This book is composed of a series of original contributions, grouped in three sections : current variations in the status of forest wildlife diversity, wildlife population and habitat change in various landscapes, and examples of effective conservation tools and strategies. The first section presents global view of forest and wildlife habitat trends as well as trends for sensitive taxa : forest wetland birds, an old-forest species, top predators, forest raptors and large forest carnivores. The next section presents wildlife responses to landscape change, whether from forestry, agriculture or natural disturbance. Examples range from Japan to Europe to the Caribbean The final section presents some tools and strategies for the conservation of forest wildlife diversity, with the use of reference landscapes in northern Europe, forest practices in Australia and the use of remote sensing to map key species distributions or identify unprotected areas that have high wildlife diversity. Throughout, the perspective is on the large scale : landscape, region or continent. The larger the scale, the more effective will be efforts to conserve forest wildlife diversity.
