Two winter wheat cultivars, Regina and Zdar, cultivated in greenhouse, were evaluated in relation to the changes in the leaf physiology, chlorophyll content and yield characteristics under cereal aphid stress. The significant reduction of leaf area, dry matter and chlorophyll content were determined in the leaves of plants infested by aphids Metapolophium dirhodum (MD) and Rhopalosiphum padi (RP). The damage to flag and 2 nd leaves was obviously greater in MD infested plants, the bottom 3 rd and 4 th leaves were more damaged by RP. Both aphid species resulted in yield reduction. For greater part MP infestation resulted in seed weight losses, while RP feeding tended more to decrease in seed number per ear. The greatest losses in seed weight were observed in both cultivars in ears infested by Sitobion avenae (SA). Zdar was more sensitive to aphid feeding than Regina.
