This book attempts to summarize current knowledge of the European longhorn beetles concisely and simply. It will not replace specific taxonomic publications and is on no account to be regarded as a monograph of this group. On the contrary, this book should enable the non-expert to gain an overview of the distinguishing features, the distribution and the biology of the European species. The identification keys are kept as simple as possible and many illustrations accompany the keys to this end. As a further aid, each genus is illustrated with a figure of the habitus of a typical species. In addition, the distribution maps given for each species show the known distribution within Europe. In treating each species, a short description is given, together with details of larval development and biology. References for further reading are also listed. A sensible selection of references has been prepared. The key is geographically valid for the whole of Europe, but excluding the European part of the former Soviet Union and the European part of Turkey.
