Résumé :
|
The history of tree breeding in the UK is addressed in 10 chapters covering: the beginnings; the background; the early years; the field progeny testing programme (design, test sites, assessment of field experiments, and details of tests with conifers); the production of improved material (seed stands, seed orchards and genetic gain trials); modification and refinement of breeding techniques; improvement work in broadleaved species; developing vegetative propagation techniques as an aid to tree breeding; biochemical and molecular methods; and the future. Eight appendices give further details.
