This book provides a comprehensive description of the natural characteristics and diversity of European rivers, and the extent to which human society exploits and benefits from them. It describes the major characteristics of some 166 European river catchments, covering more than 70% of the continent from the Urals to the Atlantic. A diverse group of specialists has written chapters on the major European river basins and regions. Each chapter includes up to 10 featured rivers, with detailed information on their physiography, hydrology, ecology/biodiversity and human impacts.
