The general theme of the conference is the design, implementation and operation of sustainable solutions for wet-weather flow in urban and suburban areas. * alternative technologies for stormwater management * specific technologies for treatment of urban wet-weather effluents * sustainable strategies for management and control of urban wet-weather flows * tools for the analysis and management of the urban water cycle A special focus will be given to stormwater management in highway corridors. The emphasis of the conference is on the exploration of accepted practical and current approaches and solutions, in particular on the most innovative ones, in order to present the way they mesh with, or diverge from, their expected performance. Consideration of urban stormwater management falls into a strong context of two guiding principles: the preservation of natural ecosystems and sustainable development. Naturally, the implementation of these new technologies is subject to technical challenges. However, equally challenging to further development are non-technical considerations including socio-economic, urban planning, educational, and policy and regulatory issues. The conference will deal with all these aspects, through the presentations of both research results and operational experiences. This 5th conference of the Novatech series will pay particular attention to communication, information, public education and knowledge dissemination initiatives, thus promoting further development of these practices and acceptance of innovative solutions, not only by the general public, but also by engineers in countries with basic urban water management challenges. The main goals of the Novatech conferences are to review and disseminate to the maximum extent, the state-of-the-art and the current knowledge on urban hydrology, and thereby contribute in identifying future stormwater management issues and principles. These goals will be pursued through two activities: informing engineers and managers about new developments in this field on a world-wide basis, and promoting exchange of their own experiences; allowing researchers and professionals to meet the leading experts in wet-weather urban water management and making them aware of the ongoing researches.
