SETAC is pleased to present Ecological risk assessment of contaminated sediments, the proceedings of a Pellston workshop held 23-28 April 1995 at Pacific Grove, California. Although sediment toxicity/bioaccumulation testing and environmental risk assessment (ERA) originated together in the early 1980s, their separate evolution prompted experts from 21 states and 6 contries to integrate sediment quality assessment with ERA during this workshop. By critically evaluating existing approaches, this group of experts identifies principles and practices for sediment ecological risk assessment (SERA) that are designed to improve the scientific and regulatory communities'ability to assess environmental risks associated with contaminated sediments.
