Studies 127 taxa belonging to seven genera and their distribution in India. Observes anormal behaviour during conjugation and conditions leading to formation of polyploid spores. Makes a numerical approach towards affinities of some taxa of Spirogyra on the basis of their conventional key characters. Assignes conspecific status to some morphospecies considering variabilities.
