This project is an outgrowth of our recent discovery of wind-transported diatoms in ice cores from south pole station and taylor dome. diatoms should be useful provenance indicators for storms that cross the antartic coastline and penetrate deep into the continental interior. our ice-core work resulted in the identification of about 50 marine and non-marine taxa. every non-marine and brackish or littoral marine diatom taxon reported in the literature from the study area is included. taxa are listed in alphabetic order. ecologic and environmental information is provided for some species. the remaining information consists of a list of reported occurrences from the study area, in chronologic order.
