Résumé :
|
This symposium was based on a theme of "problems and solutions in developed river systems". it included a variety of regional perspectives and solutions already implemented in japan, canada, norway and the usa. most of the symposium was devoted to solutions in two main and widely divergent topics : habitat improvement and restoration, and mitigation via hatcheries. closely related to fish management are the perplexing and costly problems of facilitating fish passage past dams and water-diversion structures. symposium sessions were devoted to protective screens for juvenile fish, designs of fishways, passage of adult salmon and providing passage for smolts at large, main-stem structures. hatcheries can be important tools for fisheries managers trying to rehabilitate fish stocks in developed river systems and hatcheries are clearly important in commercial aquaculture. the symposium addressed concerns in planning a hatchery, maintaining water quality, improving operation and alternative hatchery production systems.
