Résumé :
|
Australasia has two temperate freshwater eel species : anguilla dieffenbachiiendemic to new zealand and anguilla australis which is separated into two subspecies according to wether it is found in new zealand or australia. these subspecies are differentiated by the number of vertebrae. from a review of vertebral counts, electrophoretic studies, species distributions, and features of adult and larval migration, it is tentatively concluded that both shortfinned subspecies are derived from a common gene pool which has partial geographic separation into eastern and western stocks.
