Résumé : | On the basis of coincident ecological and geographical ranges, as well as parallel historical declines, it was predicted that the European sturgeon would have been a major host and disperser of M. auricularia. This hypothesis could not be tested until now, due to problems encountered for working simultaneously with two species at the brink of extinction. The collaboration between the IRTA and Cemagref Bordeaux, both institutions dedicated to the conservation of Giant Pearlmussels and European sturgeon, respectively, has led to testing this biogeographical hypothesis. |
