Résumé :
|
Drawing particular attention to development in rural areas, this book improves our understanding of the conditions that are critical for the sustainable development of towns and cities. Rural commuter belts of cities are major loci of population change, economic growth and dynamic social change within city-regions, and little is said elsewhere about the regulation of such changes to achieve sustainability targets. This book offers an investigation into how management of city-regions through the established regulation systems reinforces (or weakens) rural-urban interaction within city-regions and contributes to a better understanding of their competitiveness and attractiveness. By means of conceptual issues it examines potential future directions for European spatial development policy and in focused case studies (in England, France, Germany and Spain) it explores the practical regulatory issue of policy implementation in particular national and wider settings.
