Résumé :

Three quantitative measures are introduced for the concepts of "surplus" and "deficit" in hydrologic series. These are : run-length, run-sum and run-intensity. Positive and negative runs of a series are defined in terms of a fixed value, say c, of the variable under consideration, namely precipitation. The distribution function, moments, and other statistical properties of the three variables, run-length, run-sum and run-intensity, are obtained analytically under the following alternative assumptions on the sequence of annual precipitations : 1. It is independent and normally distributed. 2. It is independent and gamma distributed.
