| Résumé : | A mechanistic model, PITTLEACH-2, was developed to simulate leachate quantity and quality, as well as biogas generation, at sanitary landfills. The model is based on fundamental relationships among hydrologic, hydraulic, physical/chemical and microbial processes. The principles of unsaturated flow and contaminant transport in porous media are utilized to predict leachate behavior and landfill stabilization in three general areas ; moisture distribution and flow, leachate organic strength, and overall methane production. The model is capable of accommodating single-pass leaching as well as leachate recirculation modes of landfill management. |
