This work used a new test system that combined physical testing with chemical exposure. Three permeants were chosen to represent a range of aggressiveness towards HDPE ; a number of test conditions were evaluated. Cyclic loading, in particular, showed promise as test mechanism. A parameter, the "delta modulus", was devised that was shown descriptive of the degree of chemical attack. The testing system utilized was able to resolve differences in degree of chemical attack in a relatively short time.
