Starting with a technical description of a free air stream, and of annular jets in particular, the methods for analyzing jet performance are reviewed. Findings of various investigators support the proposed methods for determining : the velocity patterns along the jet axis, the velocity profile at any cross section in the fully turbulent zone, and the angle of divergence. Experimental date are given for both axial and radial annular jets, and for air streams flowing along a wall.
