Résumé :
|
The design of landfills involves uncertainties regarding the hydrogeologic and landfill design parameters and the design life of the engineered components (e.g. a leachate collection system). Models, both simple and sophisticated, are used to evaluate hydrogeologic parameters and to assess the effects of uncertainties by performing sensitivity analysis. Simple models are preferred because they are easy to use, fast and less expensive in sensitivity studies which involve several repeated analyses. This paper discusses the applications of models : in the evaluation of hydraulic conductivity of aquitards and aquifers ; for examining the interaction between engineered landfills and the natural hydraulic systems ; for assessing the controlled leachate mounding ; and for assessing the contaminant impact.
