Résumé :

The workshop papers start with an overview of the various RDT systems being used worldwide. Details of the meteorburst system and several satellite systems were described and interesting examples were presented of a variety of data transmission applications in various parts of the world. The overview papers are followed by papers presenting experiences with operational systems in the deserts of Saudi Arabia, the high mountains of Chile, and other data systems in southern Africa, Guatemala, France, China, and in Colorado and Tennessee of the USA. Following presentations of the oral and poster papers during the workshop, a summary was presented of a WMO workshop on telemetry and data transmission for hydrology, held in March 1987 in Toulouse, France. This was followed by a panel discussion of the similarities and differences between the geostationary, Argos, and meteorburst transmission systems. Papers summarizing the Toulouse workshop and panel discussion complete the presentations in this volume.
