This publication contains the scientific papers that were presented during the first EU-Japon workshop held in Chania, Greece, on 24-26 march 1998. The woekshop was organised by the Technical University of Crete jointly with the European Commission (DG XII : Environment and Climate Programme and International Cooperation Programme) in cooperation with the Science and Technology Agency (STA). The themes of the workshop were : Earthquake ground motion prediction taking into account faulting ground structure, wave propagation, etc. It's application for earthquake disaster mitigation.
