A method of drainage design for use in arid areas was developed by combining procedures proposed by McWhorter along with plant uptake functions developed by Grimes and Henderson. The method is simple to use and demonstrates the impact of plant extraction and ground water quality on design spacing. The method is also suitable for drainage design when seepage occurs through an impermeable barrier. More data are required to fully develop the plant water functions.
