The simplex method has been applied to the resolution of overlapping chromatographic peaks. The results clearly demonstrate the applicability of the method to problems encountered in HPLC, both in cases of practically total peak overlap and where differences in peak size are significant. A comparative study has been performed on the applicability of the modified simplex method (MSM) vs, the weighted centroid method (WCM), and on the influence of the type of objective function employed for the process as well as the determination of the initial simplex.
