Based on machinisms of natural selction and genetics, genetic algorithms can be used to solve problems where traditional search and optimization methods are less effective. Genetic algorithms find solutions to problems by simulating some features of biological evolution. But there has been no source pulling together the variety of published information on applying simulated evolution to real problems. "Handbook of genetic algorithms" organizes, in one place, all of the guidance information needed to apply genetic algorithms to a wide range of problems. Using nonmathematical terms, it explains what genetic algorithms are, how they have been applied to various types of problems, and how to tailor them to specific problems of your own.
