Résumé :
|
Having been interested for many years in the stability of dams and the water-tightness of reservoirs the author has decided to set down his considerable findings in this copiously illustrated volume. In the course of co-ordinating facts the author has generalised the subjects in a few introductory chapters showing influences on the types of dams and reservoirs, of the underground structure, hardness of rocks, slopes of valleys and the effect on engineering design of slips and subsidences, coal-mining, glacial interference, earthquake leakage, artificial strengthening of weak rocks and grouting. Notes are included on the possible causes of dam disasters. The work includes many notes on the geological interest of sites with which the author has been particularly concerned. Undoubtedly the engineering implications will be of interest to geologists concerned with the foundation of dams whilst the geological implications should prove most useful to all engineers concerned with dams and reservoirs.
