Résumé :

Developments in geotechnical engineering. Substantial advances in the theory and practice of dam design and methods for geotechnical evaluation have resulted in the construction of structures which initially and over a long term provide maximum safety to those who live and work in flowways below. these techniques are equally applicable to analysis of the safety of existing structures, many of them of considerable age and in a state of dangerous disrepair or decay. This book has been written with the conviction that safe construction of new dams and reservoirs and constant monitoring of existing facilities are joint responsibilities of engineers and geoscientists. The geoscientist is concerned not so much with the design of man-made structures as with the foundations on which they rest. Accordingly, this volume stresses the aspects of foundations that should be investigated and analyzed during periods of planning, construction and post-construction surveillance of dams and reservoirs.
