Volume I covers the basic tests for soil classification and compaction,as given in British Standard,which it augments.Many numerical examples are given,to illustrate the methods of calculation.Typical graphical results are shown,and the reporting of data explained.Procedures are based on British Standards where applicable,or on other recognised authorithies(which are acknowledged),or on the author's own experience.Also included are notes on general laboratory equipment,good technique and safety in the laboratory.
