This book provides a complete review and compilation of the results of the programme of research on the compaction of soil and granular base material at the transportation and road research laboratory from the inception of the studies in the mid 1940s until the end of 1990. it makes comparisons of the performances of a wider range of compaction machines than has ever been achieved before. it interprets the data so as to provide the practising engineer with up-to-date guidance on the perfomance of plant and the preparation and control of compaction specifications. although emphasis is placed on methods and specifications used in the united kingdom, a wide range of soil conditions were tested and the results achieved are applicable in the majority of climatic conditions experienced throughout the world. this volume is intended to comprise a unique reference book on all aspects of soil compaction.
