This book concentrates on rainfall-runoff systems. The philosophy of systems approach is introduced in chapter 1,and definitions and concepts are presented in chapters 2.Types of hydrologic problems and the models to be developed to address them are reported in chapter 3.Elementary functions and their hydrologic responses are discussed in chapter 4,and applications of these functions to development of superposition integrals are shown in chapter 5.Presented in chapter 6 are the methods of moments and cumulants commonly used for estimating parameters of hydrologic models derived by applying the elementary functions or otherwise.Chapter 7 discusses seven additional methods of parameter estimation, some of which are of recent origin. The watershed runoff is introduced in chapter 8 and its time characteristics,in chapter.Different types of mathematical models for an effective rainfall-direct runoff relationship have been presented in hydrologic literature. Both continuous-time and discrete-time linear time-invariant models are discussed in chapters 10 and 11,respectively.Differential equations and the caracteristics of rainfall-runoff systems that they exhibit are treated in chapter 12.Also shown there is the relationship with conceptual models. The continuous-time and discrete-time linar time-invariant forms of these models are discussed in chapter 13 and 14 respectively.Linear time-varying models are introduced in chapter 15.The discussion is extended to nonlinear conceptual models in chapter 16 and to nonlinear empirical models in chapter 17.Both linear and nonlinear models applicable to ungaged watersheds are presented in chapter 18.The methods of reservoir flood routing are discussed in chapter 19.Linear and non linear as well as empirical and conceptual models are included.Chapter 20 presents the methods of channel flood routing.Again, linear and nonlinear, empirical and conceptual, and time-invariant and time-variant models are considered.
