Members of the genus Populus have long fascinated researchers, land managers, government agencies, and the general public due to their ecological and economic importance internationally. This attention has intensified over the past decade as genomics tools have rapidly developed, driven in large part by the sequencing of the poplar genome and the rapid development of other 'omics ressources. The purpose of this book is to highlight the development of Populus as a model organism for tree genomics.
